Weight loss confusion...

The hardest part of trying to lose weight is figuring out the food you should take and avoid.
For example, basically for weight loss, the rule is to keep moving, eat healthy and clean, avoid deep fried, processed and sleep and wake up the same time every time. OK got that.

Actually the exercise and the sleeping part -  I got it. Its the food that confuses me. First of all -  lets go macro level. The food best for weight loss, is avocado, green leafy vegetables, Greek yogurt, fresh fruits, and etc.
But then, I am not supposed to be eating the following fruits if I follow the Ayurvedic weight loss:

  • Bananas
  • Cantaloupe
  • Coconut
  • Dates
  • Figs (fresh)
  • Grapes (green)
  • Grapefruit
  • Kiwi
  • Melons
  • Oranges
  • Papaya
  • Pineapple
  • Plums
  • Rhubarb
  • Tamarin
  • Watermelon
Eh...I eat pineapple to induce my absent periods, and eat dates because I was told it increases my iron content and oranges because for its vitamin C and etc. So none of the above is good for me and should be avoided. O...k.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, I am considered to have an imbalance of the Yang -  meaning I am Yang deficient  ( also known as Cold). So I am supposed to avoid these fruits. The fruits marked in green are the foods I can take in Ayurvedic medicine. Urghhh....

  • Banana
  • Grapefruit
  • Kiwifruit
  • Lemon
  • Orange
  • Pear
  • Persimmon
  • Pineapple
  • Pomelo
  • Star fruit
  • Strawberry
  • Watermelon

OK -  now lets not even compare the Chinese and Indian version. I am not to take avocado, sweet potatoes, pumpkins ( these were supposed to be helping in weight loss and now after eating these for months, now I realize I have been eating wrongly).

I also must avoid rice of all colors and include quinoa, millet, couscous and granola. Hello! Me, Asian you know. How to avoid rice? To make matters worse, I am supposed to stay away from wheat as well! I mean come on! Whole wheat flour is the next best thing after ice cream for me and I am not supposed to eat that too? What do I eat for sustenance then? Air?

And exercise wise -  no easy peasy yoga for me. It should be complicate and vigorous. If I break my knee maybe I will settle for porridge as my staple food and THAT might get  me to lose weight!
I must have vigorous exercise and for now, I take it that swimming can be included as one and long fast walks can be included as well. I wonder if washing plates and mopping the house will be considered as a vigorous exercise. What about spring cleaning and organizing the paper work?
If I go deep inside, I will complicate matters.

So what I have done is for now, avoid rice whenever I can. I can't avoid wheat yet, but still looking for substitutes in ragi and buckwheat flour. I only eat the fruits and vegetables that are favoured. I eat warm food, and I don't eat any food that came out from the fridge. No more cold water -  only warm water.

Since I have only started checking these stuffs out last week, I cannot report any changes yet. Might take sometime I am afraid. Once I feel something or spot something I will update. One baby step at a time.
